Chocolate Pudding Cake
If you’re craving something warm, chocolatey, and ridiculously easy to make, this Easy Chocolate Pudding Cake is the perfect dessert. It comes together with simple pantry ingredients and only takes about 10 minutes to prep.
The best part? While the cake bakes, it creates its own rich chocolate sauce underneath. Spoon it into a bowl while it’s still warm, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you have the kind of cozy dessert everyone will want seconds of.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 35 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 1½ cups hot water
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, ¼ cup cocoa powder, and baking powder.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until everything is combined and a thick chocolate batter forms.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar and remaining ¼ cup cocoa powder evenly over the top of the batter.
- Carefully pour 1½ cups of hot water over the entire mixture. Do not stir! It may look a little unusual at this point, but the water is what helps create that delicious chocolate sauce underneath the cake.
- Bake for approximately 35 minutes, or until the top of the cake looks baked and set.
- Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes before serving. Spoon each serving into a bowl, making sure to scoop up some of the warm chocolate pudding sauce from the bottom.
The Best Way to Serve It
This dessert is especially good served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cold, creamy ice cream melts into the warm chocolate sauce and makes an incredibly simple dessert feel extra special.
You could also add whipped cream, fresh berries, or a light dusting of powdered sugar.
A Simple Dessert for Any Night
One of the best things about this chocolate pudding cake is that you don’t need frosting, a mixer, or any complicated ingredients. Everything goes into one baking dish, and the oven does the rest.
It’s perfect for a cozy night at home, Sunday dinner, entertaining friends, or one of those evenings when you suddenly realize you need dessert.
Quick Tip: This cake is best served warm, when the chocolate sauce underneath is still soft and gooey.
