Fun Things to Do in September Around Green Bluff
There’s something about September in Spokane that feels like the start of a new season.
The mornings are a little cooler. The air is crisp. Football is back. Coffee somehow tastes even better. Before long, we’re all looking for excuses to spend a little more time outside.
For many Spokane families, that means making the annual trip to Green Bluff.
Just a short drive north of the city, Green Bluff has been one of Spokane’s favorite fall destinations for generations. Whether you’re introducing your kids to their first pumpkin patch or continuing a tradition you’ve enjoyed for years, it’s one of those places that simply feels like fall.
One of the things I love most about Green Bluff is that every farm has its own personality. Some are known for beautiful orchards, others for fresh-baked pies, country stores, family activities, or scenic views. Part of the fun is exploring and discovering your own favorites along the way.
September also marks the beginning of Green Bluff’s fall festival season. Throughout the month, many farms begin offering seasonal activities like hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, farm markets, children’s activities, and special weekend events. Some farms even feature live music and seasonal entertainment, making every visit a little different.
Of course, apple picking remains one of the biggest reasons people visit this time of year. There’s something satisfying about walking through the orchards, filling a bag with fresh apples, and bringing home fruit picked straight from the tree.
And then there are the treats.
Fresh apple cider, warm cider donuts, homemade pies, local honey, caramel apples, jams, and all kinds of seasonal baked goods have become part of the Green Bluff tradition. It’s nearly impossible to leave without taking something delicious home.
One of my favorite parts of visiting Green Bluff isn’t a specific farm—it’s the drive itself.
The winding country roads, rolling orchards, historic red barns, and beautiful countryside remind me why I love living in the Inland Northwest. Sometimes the best part of the day is simply slowing down, rolling the windows down, and enjoying the scenery between stops.
If you’re planning a Saturday visit, I’d recommend arriving earlier in the day. Parking is usually easier, the farms are a little less crowded, and you’ll have more time to wander before the afternoon rush begins.
One piece of advice I always give friends is not to try to see everything in one trip. Pick two or three farms, enjoy a warm cider, browse the markets, and take your time. Green Bluff isn’t a place to rush through—it’s a place to enjoy.
That’s really what cozy fall adventures are all about.
One of my goals with Homegrown Spokane is to share more than real estate. I want to highlight the places, traditions, local businesses, and experiences that make Spokane such an incredible place to call home.
If your family has a favorite Green Bluff farm or a fall tradition you never miss, I’d love to hear about it. I’m always looking for great local recommendations to feature in a future edition of Homegrown Spokane.
Until next time, I hope you find a little time to get outside, enjoy the changing season, and make a few new memories.
